When collecting blood, use a new needle, syringe or pin prick device for
each animal.
When collecting, packaging, and submitting samples for DNA testing, it is critical to eliminate cross-contamination. Rinsing needles is not enough to eliminate possible DNA residue. A new needle, syringe and pin prick device must be used for each animal to ensure sample integrity. To improve accuracy of test results, please follow these simple steps:
1. Samples should be pulled or put into purple cap tubes ONLY.
2. Mark the front of the tube with the Animal ID.
3.While standing at the rear of the animal, raise the tail for clear
access to a vein at the base. Insert the needle of a syringe and
draw 6-9 ml of blood from the animal.
4. Place the tube into a stand up rack and refrigerate. Blood should be stored between 4 – 10ºC (39.2 – 50ºF).
5. NEVER FREEZE BLOOD.
